Unboxing
I just received my PiggyBox and wanted to share the easiest setup I have ever experienced.
Setup
There are just three things; The PiggyBox, a LAN cable and a USB power adapter. I simply plugged one end of the LAN cable into the device and the other end into my router. I then plugged the power cable into the device and into my UPS to protect it and keep it online as much as possible. If you are in an area with stable power just plugging it into a power strip should suffice.
By the time I could login to my email there was already a “Welcome to PiggyBox!” email waiting. This email includes a link to the dashboard. In the dashboard you can see your current earnings, payment methods, and your connected devices list.
Power Consumption
I measured the PiggyBox with a power meter and it uses less than 2 watts of power. It seems to average only about 1.2 watts. I used an energy consumption calculator and If you calculate at $0.15/kw hour x 24 hours x 365 days it’s less than $2 to run this box for the whole year.
How Does It Work?
From the material I can find, the PiggyBox uses a small amount of your bandwidth to lookup things on the Internet from your location. This can be anything from verifying product pricing, checking online reviews, checking websites for advertising compliance, and protecting companies brands. It also checks for response times to make sure websites are loading correctly and giving the best user experience across the Internet.
It anonymously downloads this information from the public Internet and does not collect data on your online browsing. They state the PiggyBox is secure and cannot access any of your information. The code that runs on the PiggyBox is audited every three months by an external auditing company. They also have a bounty program for anyone that finds a vulnerability with the device.
You can only connect one PiggyBox per Internet connection. If you are an EarnApp user you have to choose between the EarnApp and the PiggyBox. If you plug both in, the PiggyBox will be prioritized and you will only earn from it and no longer earn from the EarnApp.
Availability
Currently the PiggyBox is free for a limited time, but they have a lot of interest so you might have to wait a couple of weeks to receive it. You can purchase additional ones for $25, up to three devices per user. It’s only available in the United States at this time.
